Friendship in America!

My wrong idea about friendship in America was clarified by some great activities as our Survey assignment and also by American people like: Mr. Dennis (our American host family) and Matthew and Rachel (our Teacher Buddies).

It was really shocking to me read something that I thought I already know about America, different aspect we learned from television and movies and usual stereotype world assume to understand. But also I understand it is not bad at all, As American, they looking for company to share activities but also it is important to know someone is there to listen and advice you.

During our visit in Boys and Girls club I could see friendship is not a big deal with children, those two guys (who I did not ask their names) come to me and without any pre judge started to explain me how to play basketball.

I must mention Hospitality, because for us as international students could be hard to understand a culture between a bunch of different ones.  In my opinion, American host families help us a lot to learn about it. Be able to ask their opinions really explain a lot my questions!

American Culture!

Culture is a screen we use to show others how we are, what and how we do things. Also involves our way to dress, talk and relate with the population.

We use to judge cultures from our own culture perspective, even though we practice similar activities.

Something really impressing to me is what a friendship means to Americans. In Honduras your circle of friends are formed by those people who is close to you and who you feel comfortable with but also those in who you can trust and those who you can look for when you are in troubles or at least when you feel sad or depressed.

Amrican friendship could varie according where are you going  or what are you doing. So, it seems like they would not want to expose their feelings and thoughts to anyone.

So, this makes think about: do Americans have a real friend in which they can trust or they just prefer to do not get involve in any uncomfortable situation?

Do they think about their own members family as friends?

What do they do when they need to express their own feelings?

Are friendships important in an American community?

Learning, Understanding and Playing!

4 days in Arkansas and we are really accomplishing ourselves really well! There were 3 classes which help us to understand how different and interesting we are.

Our first discussion about "How to learn" taught me a lot about how to face some problems when I am teaching, then understand how culture influence our behavior when we are in from of another culture make me understand why do I react in some ways. Finally, went out and play take my orange side out! And it was not just play, appreciate aspect like cooperate and collaborate with my colleagues showed me how easy some things could be done.

I am full of activities to share with my students!

I am Blue! (True Colors Survey)

Personality is something really difficult to talk about or deal with, but today I really enjoy Molly's True Color Survey. It helps me a lot to understand some situation in which some of my students are involve.

In my opinion, solve this survey does not mean you know exactly how a person is, but you can get an idea about what kind of things they are good at, or at least how can they help in a team work.

In addition, post-survey activities make us interact between us, also make us share our feelings and agreements about different characteristics.

It was a nice day, and this is the first activity I learned and propably one of the first one I will use with my students.
